Lycanthropes - Forward By Jennifer Andersen

Lycanthropes was really an idea born from one author who pitched a very interesting sounding story to ComStar Media in the early stages of submissions. At the time we didn’t have any themes or ideas for anthologies, but just asked authors to write in with their short story ideas. One young woman, Kristen Anthony, pitched us her story Unusual Legacy and I found the idea so interesting that it started the ball rolling.

Pretty soon I was envisioning a book of short stories revolving around the supernatural phenomena of werewolves. Because of Ms. Anthony’s story about a girl who is turned into a cat, I became focused on stories about people who turned into an animal other than a wolf. There are a lot of stories out there about werewolves, but werebears or werecats, among other were-beasts, are much more rare. So, the theme for the book was decided and we began work on collecting stories for a were-beast anthology.

We were thrilled for the response that we received and soon I was busy sorting through story pitches. I came up with what I thought was a good mix of stories revolving around characters who changed or morphed into beasts. There’s a little something for everyone in this book as some of the works are humorous and some are fantasy in nature. We’ve got a hunter that becomes a bear, a warrior who spends time as a dragon, a young woman moonlighting as a monkey, and the story that started it all with a girl who inherits the ability to turn into a cat. These and other stories are featured in this book that I hope will keep you as entertained as they did me.
